What Types of Non Eco-Friendly Destinations Should You Avoid?

When planning a trip, there are going to be some places that you will want to avoid if you’d like to be as green as you can be while away from home. Not every trip you take can be a green one. So you’ll need to decide what you truly want to do. Are you committed to reducing your carbon footprint, or do you just want to throw caution to the wind and let the chips land where they may lie?

If you’re truly interested in having a green vacation, then here are some travel destinations that you’ll want to avoid at all costs.

Least Green Vacation Destinations

1. Theme parks

There is so much that is not eco-friendly about theme parks. The rides themselves use enormous amounts of electricity. Older parks are even bigger violators of this. All the lights and the fuel needed to keep the rides running is the furthest thing from green. Add to that the food places with their carry out containers. The whole place is designed as an eat-on-the-go, which creates a lot of waste and trash that’s not good for the environment.

If you can’t avoid the theme park, then all you can do is try your best to recycle what you can and use as little waste as possible while you’re there.

2. Cruises

This is like a theme park on the water in the grand scheme of things. There’s overindulgence with tons of waste while cruising along on a gas-powered boat across our oceans. All kinds of waste and garbage is being blown around on the open sea, polluting the air and the water all at the same time. You must decide whether all that is really worth a week of sea sicknesses? Probably not.

3. Road trip

A solo cross-country road trip in and of itself isn’t terrible, but driving in the car alone causes a huge carbon footprint. Even with a couple of friends, the fuel used on this kind of trip as astronomical. If you really must do it, then consider a bus tour for the trip. Spread the emissions expended amongst multiple people and not just one.

4. All-inclusive trips

This was the dream come true for our parents. What a bargain; everything included in one low cost. These types of trips are overindulgence at its finest, though. You must overindulge just to get your money’s worth. And these resorts must buy in bulk. Bulk creates more waste and therefore this is not a green vacation option.

5. Conventions or large events

Anytime you get a huge gathering of people (think Mardi Gras or New Year’s Rockin’ Eve), there probably isn’t going to be a huge amount of thought put into being green. There’s a huge number of people generating a lot of waste and who just aren’t thinking about recycling and green options. It’s fun to go to, but if you’re interest lies in eco-friendly living it would likely just be a nightmare for you to see all that waste and lack of regard for the planet.

Times are changing and you will find many of these places will boast of their attempts at being more eco-friendly. This is a good thing overall, but there is still a lot of areas for improvement. You might find something else to be a more enjoyable vacation experience for you than one of these types of places.
